Online platforms come and go with some sticking around for the long haul and some falling by the wayside. Some of the most popular platforms to come around the last few years have been Snapchat, Vine, and more. As fun and entertaining some of these platforms are, however, they have yet to touch the entertainment giant that TikTok has become.

Of course, as with any other giant online platform in the last decade or so, anyone with some chops in internet marketing and making money online is looking for a way to monetize the TikTok platform. Do you want to cash in, too? If so, you’ll need to be caught up on what TikTok is and some of the popular ways people are making some money with it.

What is TikTok?

TikTok

TikTok is a video sharing platform that sprinkles in some social media features, as well. It was put together by ByteDance, a Chinese internet company, and launched on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, and the Google Play Store for Android smartphones and tablets in September of 2016.

The app’s enthusiastic users create content that revolves around short, often comedic videos. People showcase their talents, lip-sync some of their favorite songs, and show off their dancing skills to their favorite music genres. Initially, popular with teenagers in China and other parts of the world, TikTok exploded to global acclaim in just the last year or so.

How Can I Make Money With TikTok?

TikTok is the next big thing in the world of popular mobile applications, with millions of daily users. Naturally, plenty of people want to know how they can capitalize on this digital gold mine. With the right amount of work, dedication, and creativity, you could make some money on TikTok, as well.

Carefully study and consider a few of these simple approaches you can take to make some money from TikTok.

1. Donations, the gamer way

You could grow your account by making fun content that people genuinely want to watch. When you get enough consistent viewers, you could take the gamer approach and accept donations from fervent viewers, much like how popular gamers make the majority of their income on the popular streaming platform, Twitch.

How can you do this via TikTok, though? Do you have to give people your information so they can send you money?

Actually, no, the donation feature is baked right into the TikTok mobile app, as it turns out. Users can purchase TikTok coins on their profile settings, and then send these coins to their favorite streamers when they go Live.

For yourself to be able to receive donations, the only requirement is for you to be streaming live, so just hit the Live button to begin. If you get donations, you can convert your coins into real money through PayPal.

2. Use the TikTok advertising platform

Like other popular online platforms, TikTok has its advertising platform built in that anyone can use it. If you’ve ever run ads on a platform like Google Ads, Facebook Business, or Instagram Ads, you should find the process pretty straightforward.

Simply visit the TikTok ads platform and sign up for the ability to run paid traffic. You’ll be able to set your advertising budget, add content, and run your campaign with the push of a button. If you think your target audience might be on TikTok, then it is always worth a shot to throw some money on an advertising campaign.

With luck, you might be able to sell some stuff from your e-commerce store or something else through your advertising efforts on TikTok.

3. Make an account popular and sell it off

This is a thing people do on several different platforms, including Instagram and Reddit. Build a TikTok account with a decent following, enthusiastic followers who check out your content and engage with it, and build a brand around the account. When it has a good enough following and the right audience behind it, you might be able to find someone willing to buy it.

Internet marketers know how possible it is to make money through online accounts with fervent followings. The problem most marketers encounter is building such a following themselves, so they often reach out to purchase accounts that already have audiences they can potentially monetize.

If you’re good at making quality content and building followings, you might make some decent money by growing accounts and selling them on TikTok and similar platforms.

The Rest is Up to You

These are three simple but effective ways that people are currently making money on TikTok. If you have the drive, desire, and the time to put into your efforts, you might find that you can make a good amount of money on TikTok, in the same way that you can make money from Instagram and other online platforms.

With these endeavors, your best bet is always going to be to get creative, because with the right ideas and a unique mindset, the sky can be the limit.
