Drake (Aubrey Drake Graham) released a significant single called “Nice for What” after the success of his three previous albums. It is an upbeat song by the famous Canadian born musical artist. The 32 years old platinum artist is a renowned rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur.

The song was written in collaboration with other songwriters, composers, and artists such as Shane Lindstorm, Alan Bergman, Dennis Coles, Marilyn Bergman, Robert Diggs, Gary E. Grice, Marvin Hamlisch, Lamont Hawkins, Lauren Hill, Jason Hunter, Russell Jones, Cliffort Smith, Corey Woods, Orville Hall and Philip Price. It was produced by Murda Beatz who worked with him in the past.

His debut album “Thank Me Later” hit NO.1 on the Billboards 200 Chart in 2010. He collaborated with many prominent artists like Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Post Malone and Eminem to name a few. It is believed that “Nice for What” will be featured in his latest album “Scorpion” which is yet to be released later this year.

Since the release of this chart-topping track on 6th April 2018 through his YouTube channel, there have been over 133 million views within a month. “Nice for What” appeals mostly to the women demographic but reviews show that men are equally psyched about the beat, the rhythm, the lyrics, and the music video which was directed by Karena Evans and featured prominent female actresses.

“Nice for What” has an element of the late 2000s R&b, with Drake’s trademark smooth flowing musical persona.  The song contains musical samples of Lauren Hill’s song “Ex-Factor” (1988) and features additional vocals by Big Freedia. It was critically acclaimed as a promotion for female empowerment.

The song is 3 minutes and 30 seconds long whereas the official music video is about 4 minutes and 22 seconds long.

The theme of the song is a tribute to high class, independent and self-respecting women which resonates his previous track “Fancy” from 2010. Drake rarely minces his lyrics in all of his records, so this song is straightforward, simple and has a predictable rhythm. The sound is easy to absorb and can be labeled as a low-key club banger rather than a trap record.

“Nice for What” stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks. It is still trending on every social media platforms, reeling in 88000 download and 60.4 million streams in its debut.  It became the first song to debut at number 1 on the Mainstream R&B/HipHop Chart and Drake’s fifth US number-one song and third as a leading musical artist.

The Grammy Award-winning artist finds balance in creating music that appeals to several masses and still dominates it. In “Nice for What,” Drake uses his vocals to match the vibe of the track perfectly. It sounds fun and uplifting. Improvement in delivering his rap style from his previous tracks is also notable which justifies Drake’s relevance in the current music industry. The refreshing, perfect-pitch and feel-good beat leaves a lasting impact after listening.
