Protester slaps French President Emmanuel Macron in the face

French police have arrested a couple after French President Emmanuel Macron was smacked in the face. The incident took position as Macron took part in a walkabout procedure in a area in southeastern France.

‘An affront to democracy

“The gendarmerie is questioning the person who tried to slap the president and another individual,” said a record from the local prefecture.

“Around 1:15 p.m. (1115 UTC/GMT), the leader got back into his car following visiting a senior school and came back out because onlookers were calling out to him,” the prefecture said. “He went to meet up them, and that’s where in actuality the event happened.”

French Perfect Minister Jean Castex condemned the event as “an affront to democracy.”

“Politics cannot be abuse, verbal aggression, much less physical aggression,” the premier told parliament.

Tour to meet up voters personally

The incident takes its serious security breach and overshadows the start of a tour where Macron has said was created to “take the country’s pulse.”
